Dropzone is a productivity app for the Mac that makes it faster and easier to move and copy files, launch applications, upload to many different services, and more. Dropzone 4 Updated for macOS Big Sur and Apple Silicon - Read Blog Post. Mac OS X contains a variety of tools for repairing disk, partition, and file system errors. These options work like chkdsk on Windows, checking for disk and file system errors and repairing them. You can perform a check from within Mac OS X, but it may sometimes be necessary to use recovery mode to fix problems. With these files deleted, restart your Mac and check whether drag and drop now works as intended. MacOS should have rebuilt these files with their default values intact. Hopefully fixing your drag-and-drop problems at the same time. Big computer problems can be less stressful than small ones. To use Mail Drop on your Apple device, you need to have an iCloud account. Mail Drop works by uploading your file to iCloud rather than sending it directly to people over email. Keep in mind, once you send an email with an attachment using this feature, the recipient will have 30 days to open it.

Note: This document does not pertain to Mac OS X.

With Apple's Desktop Printing software, you can create printer iconson your desktop that will allow you to use drag-and-drop printing forany number of printers. With drag-and-drop printing, you won't have tochange printers using the Chooser, and you won't have toopen files to print them. Just drag the file's icon to the icon of theprinter you want to use, and drop it.

Mac

Using Desktop Printing

  • To change your default printer, double-click the icon of theprinter you want to make the default printer. From thePrinting menu, select Set Default Printer.
  • To view the print queue information about a particular printer forwhich you've created an icon, double-click it. A box will openshowing the print queue information as well as a new Printing menu.

Installation and uninstallation notes

If you have a recent version of the operating system, Desktop Printingshould have been installed by default. If you have an older versionof the operating system that does not include Desktop Printing, youmay get it by installing Apple's LaserWriter 8software. Download it from the Apple Downloads web site.

If you have Mac OS 7.0 through 7.5.5, download LaserWriter8.5.1. Later releases are not compatible with these older versions ofthe operating system.

If you have problems using Desktop Printing, you may wish to update tothe latest version.

To disable the Desktop Printing software, double-click the hard diskicon. From the System Folder, open theExtensions folder and remove the Desktop PrinterExtension, Desktop Printer Spooler, DesktopPrinter Menu, and Desktop PrintMonitor files. Ifyou have the Extensions Manager control panel, you canuse this to disable the extensions. In later versions, some of thesefiles were incorporated into the operating system and therefore won'tbe there.

Troubleshooting

  • If you are using a PowerPC-based computer and want to have morethan four desktop printers, you must increase the Desktop PrintMonitormemory allocation by 12KB for each additional desktopprinter:
    1. Double-click the hard disk icon, then the System Folder, and then the Extensions folder.
    2. Select the Desktop PrintMonitor icon, and pressCmd-i to open a Get Info window.
    3. Enter a larger number in the 'Preferred Size:' box (to see thisbox in Mac OS 8.5+, next to 'Show:', select Memory).
    4. Close the Get Info window.

For more, see ARCHIVED: With Mac OS, how can I allocate more memory to an application?

  • If you are running Mac OS 8.0 or higher, you may experiencecrashes if the Desktop Printer Extension is present inthe Extensions folder. Because its capability has beentaken over by the operating system, you may remove this extension andstill use Desktop Printing.
  • Not all printer drivers support Desktop Printing. If you select aprinter in the Chooser and no icon is created for it, the chosenprinter driver probably doesn't support Desktop Printing.
